How it began
Try to imagine it will be your last day, when you look into the mirror one morning. Then tell your mirror image what you have achieved so far in your life and about the things you can be proud of ...
and then be glad it isn´t your last day to live and use the time you have got to live to achieve something important, something you could be really proud of ...
Helping by dancing, Dancer against Cancer started and as an idea to do a Charity-ball-event including a VIP dancing contest and in doing this to support the Austrian Cancer Aid.
The main idea was helping, information sharing and prevention support; in the big and extensive field of Cancer. Most of us live in a very stressful, hectic daily routine, and hardly there is time left for something not scheduled. No time for taking meals - just fast food, no time for taking breaks and relaxing- Burnout Syndrome, no time for preventive medical and inspections - Civilization illnesses, no time for friendships – Computer autism, and a lot more examples could be named for almost any of us.
Time for humanity, time to be a human being - at least for this very special evening.
In our goal to do something it soon became almost obvious that we should check for possibilities in a field we do know – dancing. One raises most attention with the help of prominent people who are by definition in the limelight.
If one finds enough persons of public interest from possibly all areas of life (society, economy, administration, ...) who are also aware of the enormous social responsibility, one is on the best way to getting things to change. I met so many prominent people who have despite of their uncounted charitable engagements, taken the time to take part in Dancer against Cancer. Whether they learnt how to dance, improved their dancing, engaged in appearances, presented, sponsored or sang – they were there for my team, for me and for our idea. Dancer against Cancer has become The Gala Ball Dancer against Cancer.
The Story behind
It was in October 2004 when I heard that one of my friends suffered from skin cancer. She has been my age – I thought like maybe many others – she will be alright soon. The doctors will certainly be able to cure her. After Christmas I was told that there is no chance of healing for her, and after that it was only months until finally on the 23rd of May 2005 her brother called me to inform me that she has lost her struggle against cancer. She has been a friend to me and many others, a wife, sister, daughter, and granddaughter but most of all she always has been full of joy and life. Now there are many reactions one can choose, accept the facts in a rather paralyzed state, cry and weep till there is no more tear left, one can simply fall into despair, or become angry with god, one can yell and rage but; whatever you will do nothing will change what happened. We wanted to do something - make a difference - to achieve something - a gala ball for the Austrian Cancer Aid - Dancer against Cancer was launched in October 2006.
You make a difference!!
MyAid is your sign for helping others and getting help if required.
Cancer doesn't notice your skin colour, your gender, your age or your social standing. MyAid is independent of gender, skin colour, age, social standing and the kind of cancer.
